Omaha High-Low Strategy and Tips

In Omaha high-low the goal is to win both the high hand pot and the low hand pot (to scoop the pot). In order to qualify for the low hand you need five cards below 8. Only one card in a pair counts but Aces counts as both high or low and straights and flushes don't count against the player.

Omaha high-low is like Omaha high a game where starting hands have great importance. The best hand is A-A-2-3 doublesuited. For beginners it's a good idea to only play starting hands that contain A-2 or A-3 with additional low cards for low hand. For high hand only, the correct play would be to play hands with all four cards higher than 9. The same hands as in Omaha high qualify as good starting hands in Omaha high-low also.

Vary your play to become unpredictable. Occasionally raise with weaker hands and call with strong hands, but not to often, however, be very selective about the starting hands on the whole and play tight.

The flop is where the most important decisions whether to raise or fold are made. Since Omaha is a game where hand strength matter a lot you have to be prepared to throw many hands away on the flop. Bluffs are considerably rarer in Omaha than in Texas Hold'em simply because someone have a real hand most of the times.

When you hit a flop make sure to bet big. Don't let other players in cheap giving them a good chance to outdraw you.

The best hands are hands that take both pots, which mean that hands with four low cards are the best hands in Omaha high-low.
