Introduction
Omaha is an excellent poker game with huge swings and small edges. It used to be very popular in the eighties and nineties before the Texas Hold'em explosion. The game is quite easy to learn and not that difficult to become skilled in. Texas Hold'em is a more complicated game to master. In Omaha the hand value is extremely important since the best possible hand often wins in contrast with Texas Hold'em where bluffing is a big part of the game. Omaha is a community card game which means that the players use open cards on the table to make the best possible poker hand (five cards) and the game is played with blinds and a dealer button. All players get four down cards each and the goal is to combine two of the hole cards with three of the five community cards to make the best poker hand. To determine the best hand you use the standard hand ranking scheme for poker.
There are two ways to play Omaha, first it's Omaha high with only one high hand pot then there is Omaha high-low with two pots, the high hand pot and the low hand pot limit omaha. The low hand must contain five cards below eight, the game is also called Omaha 8 or better for that reason. All cards must be of different value, in a pair only one card counts. Flushes and straights do not count against the player.
Omaha can be played with No Limit,Fixed Limit Omaha or Pot Limit betting structures. The most popular structure is Pot Limit. Omaha is played in both Europe and the US, in Europe Omaha high pot limit is more popular and in the US Omaha high-low is the preferred game.?
